Barley SHOCHU

Barley SHOCHU (Mugi-Jochu) is thought to be lighter on flavor and easier to drink than rice SHOCHU. Some barley SHOCHUS are cask-aged to produce a sharp flavor and an "oak-like" aroma similar to that of a single-malt whisky.

Barley SHOCHU originated on the Island of Iki in Nagasaki Prefecture over 400 years ago. Iki Shochu is so distinct that it has been given a WTO "Geographical Indication" protection, similar to "Scotch" whiskey or "Bordeaux" wines. See our Iki Shochu brands.
